Reviewing the final proofs for the Apollo book, i realised that i wanted to add in a double page spread, to break up two chapters. This image is of the flag being raised on the moon: a rather last minute effort, in the absence of an atmosphere, it took some rigging to make it look like it was ‘blowing’.
For Apollo 11, the flag was blasted away when the lunar module took off: subsequent crews learned to pitch the flag further away from the blast zone!
